Those who follow local fashion brands would have noticed that earlier this week, the Instagram account of Sunnies Studies was uncharacteristically empty.
Empty as in their entire feed was gone, a la Taylor Swift’s social media purge last year. But the homegrown brand known for on-trend but affordable eyewear quickly followed it up with an announcement that they will be launching something new soon.
After teasers on its Instagram Stories, Sunnies finally revealed the big secret today: they now have a makeup line called Sunnies Face.
Based on a statement it posted on Instagram, it looks like the brand’s first product will be a lipstick.
“Today, we’re introducing a dream project we’ve had for years and making it real. It started by answering a frequently asked question — ‘what lipstick is she wearing?'”

It also teased an official launch date on Aug. 8. Fans of the brand have been sharing their excitement on social media.
“SUNNIES FACE!! Gahhhh. [W]ill definitely make a video about it,” Twitter user @mrxbautista said.

@ellebasicruz is crossing her fingers for a possible collab between the two brands.

Like Glossier, which carved out its following through social media, Sunnies has a decidedly millennial aesthetic that works to its advantage online.
Behind this branding is Creative Director Martine Cajucom who previously worked for American Apparel. Those in Southeast Asia may know her from the E! Asia reality show !T Girls Besties.
Apart from sunglasses, Sunnies has also created Specs, a prescription eyewear line, and Sunnies Cafe.
