The trailer for the Filipino movie Glorious, the new film starring Angel Aquino and Tony Labrusca, was posted online by its producer Dreamscape Digital on Saturday and netizens were left hot and shookt by the passionate scenes between its stars.
The trailer was such a hit among netizens that it was shared more than 15,000 times and had more than 1.1 million views.
Directed by Connie Macatuno, the film is about an older woman (Aquino) who falls for a younger man (Labrusca) and how they deal with society’s reaction to their generally unconventional romance.
The movie was produced for iWant, a streaming service owned by ABS-CBN Corporation which will be launched this month. Think of it as the Philippines’ version of Netflix, and this movie as the local version of Netflix Originals.
Perhaps the reason why people are so shocked is that recent romance movies top-billed by “love teams” are usually cutesy and wholesome. They would never show steamy scenes in their trailer, for fear of offending fans.
That’s not to say that all Filipinos are not used to seeing nude scenes in local productions. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, soft porn films became big in the Philippines, but that trend was decades ago.
At the same time, male leads are usually older than female leads in conventional Filipino romance movies. Aga Muhlach, who’s almost 50 years old, was recently paired with the 31-year-old Bea Alonzo, yet no one was shocked when they played lovers.
The team-up of the 45-year-old Aquino (who plays a woman in her 50s) and 23-year-old Labrusca is new, therefore surprising.
So far, the virality of the trailer has led to a ton of interest from netizens.
@philip_penuliar thinks the movie’s love scenes were on point.
He wrote: “That’s how Pinoy movie scenes should be especially those with love scenes. The viewers end up feeling alive. They’re not just about being cute unlike those movies which have [mature] stars who think they’re still teenagers.”

Over at Dreamscape Entertainment’s Facebook account, Charlyn Carmelo joked: “OMG, Tony your kisses will make me crazy! It’s obvious you don’t have any experience [when it comes to kissing].”
Mimi Lofranco used it as an opportunity to talk about her own experience.
She wrote: “I have (sic) an affair with a [man] 23 years age (sic) older than me and we were together for 8 years but he’s gone now because he had the big C (cancer). Just recently I had [a relationship] with a [man] 10 years younger than me. All I can say is the younger one is better because the older man wasn’t that intimate when it comes to sex. That’s just my experience.”
Michelle Armayan wants to be Aquino’s double. She joked: “I could be Angel’s double if she’s tired from her kissing scenes [with Labrusca].”
All of those reactions just from a single trailer? Makes one wonder how people will react when the film drops this month.
