If you’ve ever wondered how iconic lines from Filipino romantic movies would sound in a Hollywood film, well, then here you go.
The stars of Netflix’s new rom-com Set It Up paid tribute to some of the most famous lines in local films in a Facebook video posted by the streaming service on Wednesday.
In it, actors Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell deliver lines from the heartwrenching One More Chance, the “aren’t-they-more-than-bestfriends” film Labs Kita, Okey Ka Lang? (I Love You, Are You Okay?), the classic love triangle movie Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita (Because I Love You So Much), and the action-packed Apoy Sa DibDib Ng Samar (Fire in the Heart of Samar).
The two opted out of some pretty difficult Filipino words but that’s OK, A for effort.
Whoever clued them into the Filipinos’ love for romantic movies should be given a prize too.
In the Philippines, most of the films produced by mainstream studios are romantic comedies or romantic dramas starring “love teams” — two actors paired up to appear in several projects together.
Those who enjoy Filipino rom-coms will probably also like Set It Up. Perfect as a chill movie night pick, the film is about Harper (Deutch) and Charlie (Powell), executive assistants who play matchmaker to their tw0 bosses.
Cue the kilig (heart fluttering).
