Spotted: John Lloyd Cruz in Bangkok for Louie Cordero’s art show opening

No, that’s not John Lloyd in the photo above. That’s Filipino artist Louie Cordero, him of ‘Nardong Tae’ fame.

Louie recently finished an art residency program in Bangkok and the art works that came off that program are now included in “The Golden Rule,” a group show that opened Saturday night at the Bangkok University gallery in Thailand’s capital.

Filipinos came in full support with no less than John Lloyd Cruz, in all his kalbo glory, was there at the opening. Bangkok-based Filipina lifestyle photographer Mia Marchadesch-Jaranilla snapped and posted this photo on her Instagram account. That’s Mia, her daughter and Lloydie by the way.

Mia’s daughter, Menca doesn’t know John Lloyd Cruz. “Why did we have a photo with him,” she asks. “Because he’s a Filipino celebrity and he loves art so he deserves a photo with us,” Mia replies.

If you follow Lloydie you’ll know art has become one of his hobbies, nay passions, of late. Last year, Esquire Philippines put the actor’s portrait — his back facing actually —painted by artist Nona Garcia on the cover of its art issue.

Anyway, we also learned that along with John Lloyd are Esquire’s Editor-in-Chief Erwin Romulo, Filipino artist Gary Ross Pastrana, Xbesiter owner Jeremy Guiab, and Grey Market and gallery owner Jay Amante.

If you’re visiting Bangkok in the summer, swing by the Bangkok University Gallery (Rama 4 Rd. Klong-Toei, Bangkok). The show will run until May 30. Check out a few photos of Louie’s art works from Mia below.
