It’s called ZIG and it’s a bag specifically designed for GoPro cameras, currently getting crowd-funded on Spark Project. Okay, allow us to back the truck up: Spark Project is a local crowd funding website, similar to Kickstarter in US.
We like visiting the site every so often, you know, just to see what people are busy with, don’t mind spending their money on—market research, if you may. In the two years that it’s been around it’s helped a shitload of startups get their bearings on, like the mucho excellento, Gouache bags.
Anyway, we tell you about this because the ZIG project on Spark not only caught the eye of someone from GoPro, it also got a rare commendation from the so-called mothership. “She works for GoPro as a Project Manager in the US and is one of the backers of my project,” says Gian Carlo Rosales, the dude who thought of ZIG. “She emailed to compliment the product.”
What’s not to like? A GoPro enthusiast, Gian hated how he didn’t have a proper bag for his camera. “The bags in the market are either too small or too big for the camera,” he says. “GoPro is one of the most versatile cameras and I believe bags that carry them should match the camera’s versatility.”
And so considering all his wants, needs, and requirements, Gian designed what he felt was the ultimate GoPro carrier.
It helps that his family is from Mariveles, Bataan, which is an Export Processing Zone, where factories for international bags and luggage companies are based. “But there are also a lot of individual bag makers there who are making and selling their own bags. I actually consulted a bag maker on what stiches to use in making the bag, which material.”
After six prototypes, he finally came up with the final design that he put up for crowd funding in Spark Project. So far, it’s been incubating for a month and a half, is enjoying 62 backers from all over the world, and the best part is: It’s not yet deadline but it has already met its goal of raising PHP80,000. Wooo!
You can still be part of this success story by backing the project. Check out the project page here.
