Hoping to catch Bruno Mars during the 65th Miss Universe at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Jan 30?
Hate to break to you, but the Department of Tourism undersecretary confirmed in a radio interview on Sun, Jan 5 that the “Versace on the Floor” singer won’t be performing for the pageant.
“(He has a world tour but if it were up to) Bruno Mars, he really wanted to come. It’s just that his agent kept on reminding him that he has to have proper rehearsals for the world tour,” de Castro told DZMM.
But de Castro added viewers won’t be disappointed with the international who will perform for the 65th Miss Universe.
“International standards tayo,” she said. “Hindi pa pwede (sabihin) kasi gusto ng Miss Universe sila (ang mag-announce).”
(We can’t say who will perform because the Miss Universe Organization will be the one to officially announce it.)
“I can assure you naman this is a show that not only the Filipinos will enjoy but even the whole world,” de Castro said, adding the songs of the artists who wil fly in to perform for the pageant are very well-known.
The clarification comes as rumors surfaced that Bruno will perform during the 65th Miss Universe. This, after DOT Secretary said on Nov 2016 that a well-known artist with Pinoy root will perform for the pageant.
“Talagang sikat na sikat na celebrity with Filipino blood (A very famous celebrity with Filipino blood),” she said.
Bruno Mars’ (real name Peter Gene Hernandez) mother is Filipino-Spanish who emigrated from the Philippines to Hawaii, according to reports.
It won’t take long before the Miss Universe Organization will reveal who is going to perform during the pageant. A look at the list of previous pageant performers would reveal that, at least based on its history, it probably won’t disappoint.
The 2015 edition of the pageant had The Band Perry, Seal, and Charlie Puth as performers.
The 2014 edition had Gavin DeGraw and Nick Jonas. Stephen Tyler, Panic! at the Disco, and Russian popstar Emin performed during the 2013 pageant, which was held in Russia.
