Someone paid PHP16.3 million for this Jose Rizal sculpture

A day before the country’s 118th day of independence, a sculpture of a wild boar by national hero Jose Rizal, whose literary works fired the revolution against Spain, was auctioned off at PHP16.3 million.

The work, signed and inscribed “Dapitan, 1894”, had a starting bid of PHP3.8 million at Leon Gallery’s Spectacular Mid-Year Auction 2016 in Makati.

The biggest winner, however, was a painting by Ben Cabrera called “Isadora In Motion” which sold for PHP37.3 million.
