Bright lights, canapés, pink playbills – it was a night rife with anticipation last Friday at CCP as Maxie The Musical‘s organizers kicked off the musical with a sneak preview called ‘Patikim ng Shlight’, ahead of its November playdate.
The official lineup has yet to be announced, so it was mostly up to the creative team behind the stage adaptation of the coming-of-age movie Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros to sing key pieces. The night’s big reveal: the boy who will play Maxie is Jayvhot Galang, last seen in TV5’s Talentadong Pinoy talent competition. You can watch him below in Stage Door Canteen’s video (03:57).
“The setting is Sampaloc, Manila, so we strove for kanto (streetsmart) sophistication and class. And all the characters sing, even the policemen, even the press. Everybody sings,” co-composer Arkel Mendoza revealed to Philippine Daily Inquirer last march. From what we heard, they sang like it was Broadway.

The musical is written by Atty Nicolas Pichay and arranged by William Elvin Manzano, Janine Santos and JJ Pimpinio.
