Don’t throw away your shot, Hamil-fans: the smash hit musical Hamilton is making its Asian premiere in Manila in September this year!

Creator and star Lin Manuel-Miranda made the announcement through a video.

“Kamusta Pilipinas! I am so excited to officially announce that Hamilton will be making its Asian premiere in the Philippines,” he said.

Manuel-Miranda cited the various Filipino cast members that have been part of the stage musical, which is known for its diverse casting.

“We’ve had so many incredible Filipino company members part of the Hamilton pamilya all over the world, and now we get to bring the show to your beautiful country very soon,” he added.

Some of the most notable Filipino actors that have graced the Hamilton stage include pop star-turned-West End actress Rachelle Ann Go, who played Eliza Hamilton, Filipino-British thespian Christine Allado, who played Peggy Hamilton and Maria Reynolds, as well as Filipino-American actor Marc dela Cruz, who assumed the titular role of Alexander Hamilton — which Manuel-Miranda originated onstage.

GMG Productions, also behind the recently concluded international run of The Sound of Music, will bring the show to The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.

Hamilton, a retelling of the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton, took home 11 awards, including Best Musical, at the 70th Tony Awards, and proceeded to win the Oliviers in the UK, the Grammys, and the Pulitzer Prize.

Hamilton won’t be the first musical by Lin Manuel-Miranda to be staged here, though: Atlantis Productions staged In The Heights, also a Tony Award winner for Best Musical, in 2011 and 2012, with Manuel-Miranda himself flying to Manila during its rerun.
