Singer Marcelito Pomoy, the ‘man with two voices,’ makes it to finals of ‘America’s Got Talent’

Time for some Pinoy Pride, everyone!

Singer Marcelito Pomoy — whose near-superhuman range enables him to perform duets in both a man’s and a woman’s register — has made it to the finals of the U.S. TV show America’s Got Talent (AGT).

Pomoy performed the Andrea Bocelli song Con te partirò in last night’s episode, earning a standing ovation from judges Howie Mandel, Alesha Dixon, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell.

Mandel said that Pomoy has “the best shot at winning this whole thing… This is the semi-finals, you raised your game.”

Dixon thought Pomoy made a “brilliant song choice,” which enabled him “to shine.”

Supermodel Klum was equally effusive.

“I’ve been waiting for you all day to come into the stage. For me, you are my favorite. It just blows my mind,” she said.

Cowell, however, famously curmudgeonly, was more reserved. He told Pomoy to “take a bigger risk, because the surprise is now over,” though did allow that Pomoy has a “gift” and a “massive career in front” of him.

Pomoy advanced to the finals along with fellow contestants Hans, Tyler Butler-Figueroa, Alexa Lauenburger, Sandou Trio Russian Bar, and Duo Transcend. They will also be competing against Angelina Jordan, Boogie Storm, V. Unbeatable, and Silhouettes, four contestants who automatically made it to the finals because they received “Golden Buzzers” from the judges.

Pomoy was the grand champion of AGT’s local edition, Pilipinas Got Talent, in 2011. He has performed on the American talk show TheEllenShow, where he wowed host Ellen de Generes by performing The Prayer and Beauty and the Beast in his signature high-low register.
