Our rapid-fire roundup of things happening in Philippine showbiz.

1. WHY ROBIN PADILLA AND MARIEL RODRIGUEZ HAVEN’T GOTTEN PREGGERS YET

The husband and wife are part of the movie Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina, at mga Anak, where Mariel plays a mom to nine kids. This opened her eyes and made her realize that she doesn’t want to have kids in the meantime. “It’s a big responsibility that I am not yet willing to take,” she said in a news report in Bandila. Asked if they have “a problem,” Mariela said that she doesn’t think so although she hasn’t had herself checked yet. Asked if they’ve been “trying,” she answered no. The singer-songwriter revealed to Pep.ph that he couldn’t write a whole song the last two years. He would start some, but couldn’t really finish them. Good thing he finally overcame it. He wrote “Bangon, Kaibigan” to inspire Yolanda victims, and it was picked up by GMA 7 and produced a music video for it, with an all-star cast. Janno also wrote the theme for the new soap Paraiso Ko’y Ikaw. When he found out the storyline, he was inspired to write a song, and when he presented it to the network, they liked it. He also admitted that when the more senior songwriter Ogie Alcasid moved to TV5, he felt more inspired to write again, because he wanted the station to continue to have good songs for their shows.

Two-thirds of the 80s trio Triplets are reuniting for a show, Trenderas, on TV5. It’s the first time the two are working together in a series, after forever. Known for appearing in the TV show That’s Entertainment and movies like I Have Three Hands and When I Fall in Love, the two are also singers; Tina = “Tamis ng Unang Halik” while Sheryl = “Mr. Dreamboy” and “Sabi Ko Na Nga Ba.” Too bad Manilyn Reynes isn’t part of the Glee-inspired show, which will premiere March 31 and also star Nora Aunor, Dingdong Avanzado, and Francine Prieto.

The local franchise of MTV died in February 2010 but is now being reincarnated. Known as MTV Pinoy, it will be once again available in cable TV, thanks to MTV Network Asia Pacific and Viva Communications. Who are the new VJ’s? GMA Artist Center talents Andre Paras, Sunday All Stars regular Yassi Pressman, Josh Padilla (son of Gino Padila), and Sam Pinto, who are all managed or co-managed by Viva. News is that it will be 100% Pinoy and that it will start airing this January. Excited? This should be interesting.
