Our rapid-fire roundup of things happening in Philippine showbiz:
1. MARIAN: FROM DARNA TO WONDER WOMAN
There is no doubt how Kapuso star Marian Rivera is one of the best Darnas we’ve ever had, reintroducing the superheroine to a lot of young viewers. And now she’s taken on another superheroine: Wonder Woman. This isn’t for a movie or a TV show, however; it’s just for a feature in the magazine Digital Photographers Philippines. Shot by Jay Tablante, who is known for shooting celebs in superhero costumes, Marian’s Wonder Woman photo was shared by the actress on her Instagram page. In full WW costume (except for the golden lasso, though), Marian sure looks convincing as the popular superheroine. What do you think?

Veteran filmmaker Elwood Perez has confirmed that Hannah Espia’s Transit is the Philippine entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the American Academy Awards next year. What’s juicy is how the movie wasn’t part of the nine shortlisted films considered for the Oscars. FAP special committee chairman Peque Gallaga explained that Transit didn’t have the mandatory one-week commercial run. But when it started its theatrical run before the deliberations, then it was included in the official shortlist. Transit beat the other movies considered, Boses, Tuhog, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles, Ekstra, El Presidente, Supremo, the big hit On the Job, and the award-winning Thy Womb.

Ruffa Gutierrez was interviewed by the press last Sept 14, during the birthday party of her daughter Venice Bektas, at the Cold Stone Creamery in The Fort. As usual, her love life was tackled. Interestingly, her 11-year old daughter Lorin, shared that “she has to get somebody when she gets old.” She added that she doesn’t care who that person is “as long as that person in mommy’s heart is not a murderer.” Birthday girl Venice just had to add: “And someone who’s fit.”
4. JUDAY AND RYAN WANT ANOTHER BABY

Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo may be very career-minded people, but that’s not stopping them from wanting to have another kid. They already have two – Yohan and Lucio – but Juday explains that she really wants one because she misses having a little kid playing at home. She shared with Push, however, that it’s not as if it’s their biggest project right now. “It will happen if it will happen,” said Juday, who believes that it won’t happen if they exert too much effort on planning it.
5. DUTCH-FILIPINO FILM ‘LILET NEVER HAPPENED’ WINS AWARD

Congratulations to Lilet Never Happened, which won Best Youth Film at the Copenhagen International Film Festival! Entirely shot in Manila, it’s about a social worker (Dutch actress Johanna Ter Steege) trying to save a Fil-Am street kid (Sandy Talag) from the sex industry. Character actor John Arcilla is also part of the movie, which has been part of over 22 film festivals all over the world. However, it hasn’t been screened in Manila; it is scheduled to debut this December.
