Showbiz in a snap: Gretchen Barretto says dad threatened to kill her and siblings if they testify against Claudine, and other news

Our rapid-fire roundup of things happening in Philippine showbiz.

1. GRETCHEN SAYS FATHER THREATENED TO KILL HER AND SIBLINGS IF THEY TESTIFY AGAINST CLAUDINE

The year is about to end but it looks like the crazy Barretto family feud isn’t ending soon. Gretchen Barretto went to court yesterday, Dec. 19, to testify against Caludine. She also revealed that she’s received threats from their dad Miguel, who said he’d shoot her, her brother JJ, and sister Marjorie, if they testify against Claudine and support Raymart. The interesting thing is that Gretchen said “I love her with all my heart dahil kung hindi ko siya mahal, wala ako rito.” She added, “I’m hoping later on when Cluadine is in a better state that she will be thankful. Sana ma-realize niya na ang ginagawa naming na magkakapatid is to save her.” Gretchen revealed that Claudine has nine cases and that she’s in court almost every day. Claudine didn’t show up for the hearing. Her lead counsel, Ferdinand Topacio, was not in attendance, too, and was represented by his partner Ivy Cabatigang. (Photo: MJ Marfori of News5)

When Vic Sotto was a guest on a recent episode of the “Ikaw Na!” segment of Boy Abunda in Bandila, he said that Pauleen is the one in his heart, sort of confirming what everyone knew all along: that they are really together. So what’s Pauleen’s reaction? “Kinilig ako, yun lang!” she told Pep.ph. she also shared that they won’t be together this Christmas since Pauleen will be flying to Japan to celebrate the holidays and also welcome the New Year there together with her family. Sad news for fans: April Boy Regino is retiring from showbiz because he is no longer fit to do shows and other gigs because of his prostate cancer. He was diagnosed two years ago and he didn’t stop performing especially because fans were telling him to continue entertaining others, but he’s come to a point where he’s really exhausted already. He’s still grateful, however, that he’s found the strength to continue living, especially with the help of his wife. Feel better, Idol!

Vanessa Hudgens just helped victims of super typhoon Yolanda by accepting a donation worth $100,000 from UNICEF. She said, “It’s so devastating how many people this has affected and having to bring up an entire country again is so much work,” she said. “The children are completely vulnerable and this is going to go a long way and I’m really, really grateful that they did what they did. My mom is from the Philippines. She does have a couple of family members out there. When I found out that it happened, I was very emotionally struck. I just try to be involved as much as I can. We are all brothers and sisters, we need to help each other.”
