Showbiz in a snap: Cristine and Derek admit they’re a couple and other news

Our rapid-fire roundup of things happening in Philippine showbiz:

1. Confirmed: Cristine and Derek are a couple!
Derek Ramsay has finally admitted that he’s the boyfriend of Cristine Reyes (lucky girl), according to Yahoo! OMG. The two became a couple last Aug. 28. The hunky actor has even been very open about it online. When a Twitter follower asked him about his promise to not date someone from the industry, he replied: “I did say that i’ll never date someone from showbiz and that I’d never date Cristine coz she is a friend. I eat my words.” Incidentally, the two will have a movie, Trophy Wife, out very soon.

2. Nora Aunor wins another award for Thy Womb
Can you believe that Brillante Mendoza’s film Thy Womb is still doing the rounds of film fests all over the world? After its Russian premiere recently, the film will then be screened in Canberra, Adelaide, and Hawaii. More good news: its lead star, The Superstar, won the Best Actress award at the 3rd Sakhalin International Fil Festival in Russia. For her role in Thy Womb, she has already won best actress in the Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia, and the 11th Gawad Tanglaw.

3. Claudine Barretto reveals she was abused by Raymart for years
The actress filed her complaint-affidavit before the Marikina Regional Trial Court yesterday, Aug. 29, and it detailed how she suffered from physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse between 2005 and 2013 because of husband Raymart Santiago. Oh, and she has proof: pictures, medical certificates, photos of her wounds, bank statements. She explained that it took a while for her to bring this to court because she wanted to be sure about the whole thing. Claudine added that she’s not doing all these because she is making a showbiz comeback.

4. Regine’s dad, Mang Gerry, is sick
Last Aug. 26, Regine Velasquez asked fans and friends to pray for her father, Mang Gerry, who is sick. Yesterday, Aug. 29, the Songbird asked her followers on Instagram to post fan signs so she could compile them into a video and show it to Mang Gerry. While we don’t know why Mang Gerry’s sick, Ogie Alcasid said that he is being observed at the moment. Celebs who posted fan signs include Martin Nievera, Vina Morales, Erik Santos, and Kim Chiu.

5. What should have been included in E! News Asia Special: Anne Curtis
Congrats to Anne for being the first Pinay E! News has made a special on! She was followed by the crew of E! News Asia for four days and they even interviewed people close to her such as her dad James Curtis-Smith and friend Luis Manzano. But if there’s one thing the actress-singer wishes they could have shot, it’s that of her singing in the bathroom — because her voice sounds really nice there, she explained. Catch the 30-minute special on Sept. 29 at 7:30pm on SkyCable Channel 57, Cignal Channel 25, and Cablelink Channel 33.
