Showbiz in a snap: Claudine Barretto’s former P.A. says the actress is a thief, and other news

Our rapid-fire roundup of things happening in Philippine showbiz:

1. CLAUDINE IS A THIEF, SAYS FORMER P.A.

Dessa Patilan, Claudine Barretto’s former P.A., ended up in jail last May when the actress complained that she stole items amounting to PHP8.5 million. Last Sept. 11, Dessa went to the Office of the City Prosecutor in Marikina accusing Claudine of theft. She said that on the night of May 10, the actress got her stuff amounting to PHP13,550. Claudine allegedly went to her room with the police, destroyed the teddy bear that Sabina (Claudine’s daughter) gave her, and got her wallet which contained PHP10,700. Claudine gave her back PHP700 for “panggastos.” According to Dessa, the actress also got her tablet worth PHP3,000, which contained a memory card worth PHP500. Lastly, Claudine also got Dessa’s SIM card, worth PHP50.

Interesting how the Barrettos are always in the news, huh?

Best known for her Calila role in the GMA 7 soap Ang Munting Heredera, Barbara Miguel recently bagged the Best Actress award at the Harlem International Film Festival in Harlem, New York. This is for her portrayal of a nine-year old impregnated by her own father in the Cinemalaya entry Nuwebe. Barbara wasn’t able to fly to New York to accept her award because the GMA Artist Center talent and protégé of Direk Maryo J. de los Reyes is busy promoting Bamboo Flowers, which is an entry to the Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival All-Masters Edition.

Congrats, Calila!

3. DARA LIKES HER JOLLIBEE

It looks like Sandara Park – you know, Ang Pambansang Krung Krung – is missing in the Philippines. She was in New York recently and didn’t think twice about entering the Jollibee there. Sandara, aka as Dara now that she’s with pop group 2NE1, even ordered in Tagalog. Thing is, they didn’t understand her! She posted this photo on her Twitter account, @krungy21, showing her posing with Jollibee, and carrying bags full of Jollibee grub. How Pinoy, right?

4. NO LONGER TOGETHER: SHEREE AND GIAN MAGDANGAL

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”20861″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”600″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

Sad, but the two are no longer together – and living together. The former Viva Hot Babes member told Pep.ph that she still loves Gian but that their set-up is the best for now so that they can also focus on their own respective careers. They still talk, however, especially when it comes to their son. Sheree was asked whether there’s a third party involved or not, and she said that she heard about that but didn’t want to talk about it. “Huwag po muna. Hindi ko pa masasabi.”

5. SARAH G NOMINATED IN MTV EMA

There’s no stopping Sarah Geronimo! The Voice of the Philippines coach is nominated in the award show’s Best Southeast Asia Act category. She’s up against Malaysia’s Hafiz, Vietnam’s My Tam, Indonesia’s NOAH, Singapore’s Olivia Ong, and Thailand’s Slot Machine. Announcement of winners will take place on Nov. 11, when the MTV Europe Music Awards happens in Amsterdam.

Good luck, Sarah!
