Showbiz in a snap: 2013 Miss International Bea Rose Santiago is a liar, says dad, and other news

Our rapid-fire roundup of things happening in Philippine showbiz.

1. DAD OF BEA ROSE SANTIAGO SAYS SHESALAYER

“I grew up a daddy’s girl, then when he decided to leave my family it was to the point that I didn’t have a boyfriend until I was 20,” shared the reigning Miss International when she was a guest on the Jan. 5 episode of Buzz ng Bayan. She added that there was a time she confessed in church how much she hated her dad, but that she had already forgiven him when he said sorry before she joined Binibining Pilipinas last year. Three days after the revealing interview, her dad, Paul Valencia Santiago, aired his side – through Facebook. It’s pretty long so here’s a summary: Paul’s former wife was forced to resign from her post in the Provincial Hospital of Masbate due to anomalies so Paul and a sibling sent her to school to take up a caregiver course. Paul’s father then contributed money to pay for her plane fare to Canada. Paul was left with the kids in the Philippines while waiting for a job offer abroad. His former wife eventually wanted to get the kids (just the kids), and he said yes even if he was hearing about rumors of his former wife’s infidelity. The rumors turned out to be true. Paul claims his former wife brainwashed their kids and hindered them from communicating. In 2010, the former wife returned to the Philippines and said she was gonna help Paul go to Canada, but nothing happened.

More claims: Paul attended and accompanied Bea Rose to events (she claims she didn’t get support from him); Paul and his siblings provided monetary support, as well; he paid for her condo in Cubao to comply with the pageant’s six-month residency requirement.

His final statement: “I never asked for forgiveness as I have not sinned against her or her siblings. I am a public official in our town and it affects my credibility that you paint a picture of an irresponsible father on me when I have not done anything to take advantage of you or your perceived popularity. Also I am concerned about how the web of lies you spread on the media will affect my family members. I do not dismiss the fact that the termination of my relationship with her mother may have had psychological effect on her especially the years she was exposed to her mother’s bitterness but it cannot justify her immature behaviour.”

2. VICTOR BASA AND DIVINE LEE PREFER “LIVING IN” THAN MARRIAGE

For now, that is. The My Husband’s Lover actor shared with Pep.ph that while most couple that go into a relationship have marriage as the end goal, they are okay with their current live-in set-up because he still needs to prove and achieve a lot of things, and doesn’t want to have what-ifs once he’s tied down. He also doesn’t want to come to a point when he blames Divine for all those what-ifs because that’d be unfair. (Photo: divinemlee Instagram account)

3. ARE ENRIQUE GIL AND BANGS GARCIA A COUPLE?

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”43594″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”600″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

Many people think they are, especially when Bangs herself posted in Instagram last Dec. 27 a photo of them together in Tokyo Disneyland. “With Quen and his family,” it read. However, Bangs (whattaname, right?) clarified with ABS-CBN News that she is single right now. But when asked if she has a suitor from showbiz she just replied, “Huwag muna. Basta I’m entertaining.” (Photo: valeriebangsgarcia Instagram account)

4. JED MADELA NOT OFFENDED BY FAT COMMENTS

The singer is “not so much affected anymore” by these fat/taba/pig/baboy/jubese comments, he told ABS-CBN News. But he’s definitely doing something about it, of course. He’s gone back to the gym, although he had to see the doctor one time when he suffered from an asthma attack and had a couple of cramps while werqing it in the gym. He’s gonna take things moderately now, but still vows to go for a healthier version of himself this 2014. A skinnier version, too, we assume. (Photo: jmadela Instagram account)

5. MMFF AFFECTED VICE GANDA-KRIS AQUINO FRIENDSHIP

The Queen of All Media (everyone bow) admitted yesterday, Jan. 13, to Boy Abunda on her show Kris TV, that the Metro Manila Film Festival had a not-so-good effect on her friendship with Vice. We bet! After all, Kris’ movie My Little Bossings was number one in sales while Vice’s Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy ended up a close number two. Kris was kinda vague about the whole thing but did share that when Vice said “Lakas talaga,” pertaining to the Kris movie with Vic Sotto, Kris answered, “Bata eh,” pertaining to her son Bimby and the child wonder Ryzza Mae Dizon, who are the real stars of My Little Bossings.
