It could be nothing more than a gag, but it’s captivated us nonetheless. For practically every week since August, “Chris” has been posting announcements that range from the harmless (“Looking for golfers in Legaspi Village who want to get a beer and talk…”) and lonely (“I need someone to look at my eye and tell me if I should buy some cream or ointment…”) to the downright weird (“I dropped a pair of scissors behind my stove, but my arms are too big to reach them. If you have a child with slim arms, meet me here at 4pm…”) on Plaza Café’s community billboard.
So, who in the world is “Chris”? We visited Plaza Café in Makati this week and cornered the staff. We also asked photographer Tammy David, from whose Instagram account we first learned about “Chris”. Surprise, none of them have an idea who “Chris” is! Does s/he even exist? Does it matter? Whoever s/he is, we want him/her to write for us. Paging “Chris”!
SINCE YOU’RE THERE…
They make beautiful sandwiches at Plaza Café and there’s also a pretty good bar at the far-end of the room. The New England Classic (turkey, cheddar cheese, granny smith apple, honey mustard) on cranapple bread (PHP279) is fab. But if you don’t like fruits in your food, Turkey Brie (turkey, brie, tomato, lettuce leaf, honey mustard) on cranapple bread (PHP295) is it. All sandwiches come with pickles and frips – the frips are excellent, you’d want an extra order (PHP50.)
Plaza Café is at Corinthian Plaza, 121 Paseo de Roxas St, Makati City; +63 2 5511283. Mon-Sat 9am-2am.
