Actress Ryza Cenon admitted she battled depression last year.
The actress — one of the winners of the second season of GMA’s reality talent show StarStruck — said she even considered drastic measures.
In an interview with Rachelle Siazon of Pep.ph on Thu, Jun 9, Ryza said her depression was brought about by “mounting problems,” which include not having TV work for almost a year and a failed romantic relationship.
“May times na sinasaktan ko yung sarili ko, pero hindi yung sinusugatan talaga. Like, kung anong mahawakan ko. Before pa, may dumbbell tapos ipupukpok ko sa ulo ko… “May [suicide] attempt lang ako, pero hindi ko siya kaya gawin,” she said.
(“There were times when I would hurt myself. I didn’t cut myself, but I would use whatever’s close to me. Before, I hit my head with a dumbbell… I attempted to commit suicide, but I couldn’t do it.”)
Ryza added: “Takot pa rin ako kay God kasi alam kong mali siya.”
(“I was scared of God because I know it was wrong.”)
The 27-year-old actress is now feeling better. Ryza said painting became her one of her outlets for recovery from depression.
She’s actually holding her first art exhibit, titled Independencia: Ang Panimula, at Chef Laudico Gueverra’s Restaurant in San Juan City.
Check out Ryza doing a “live painting” during the press conference for her art exhibit.
