On Thursday at Shangri-La Plaza Mall, the Ateneo Art Gallery announced the winners of the Ateneo Art Awards 2015 and Silverlens artist Ryan Villamael emerged as the big winner.

He is the recipient of three international residency grants funded by the Ateneo Art Gallery and its partner institutions: La Trobe University Visual Arts Center in Bendigo, Australia; Artesan Gallery in Singapore and Liverpool Hope University in Liverpool, UK.

Villamael, shortlisted for his beautiful Isles exhibition, is among the three artists who won the Fernando Zobel Prize for Visual Arts. The other two are also Silverlens represented artists: Frank Callahan for his solo show Dead Ends and Pio Abad for his solo exhibition, The Collection of Jane Ryan and William Saunders.

Paula Acuin, meanwhile, won the Purita Kalaw Ledesma prize for art criticism, for her work “Lakas ng Loob: Re-introducing Cesar Legaspi” on Cesar Legaspi: The Brave Modern at the Ayala Museum.

Works of the shortlisted artists will be on display at the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza until Sep 21.
