Looking to bask in the holiday spirit in public? Now you can, after Rizal Park just unveiled their new Christmas lights in a special lighting ceremony, the National Parks Development Committee announced.

Rows of angels, an illuminated Christmas tree, and the classic belen were just some of the Yuletide installations unveiled at the lighting event, along with a show of the park’s famous water fountain jets. Parol lanterns and other lights hung on the many trees that dotted Luneta.

The opening of Rizal Park comes after citizens clamored for more public spaces, following the crowded blunder at the newly opened Manila Bay Walk Dolomite Beach. Other spaces in Manila that have opened to the public include Intramuros, which now allows joggers to indulge in some open-air exercise within its walled city.

Earlier this week, Pasig City agreed to block off the usually-busy Emerald Avenue in the Ortigas business district from vehicular traffic on “Open Street Sundays,” in order to make more open spaces available to pedestrians.
