Pinoy fans wax nostalgic after actors Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz catch up via live stream

Former long-running on-screen powerhouse couple Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz had fans swooning and waxing nostalgic when they took to Instagram live last night to catch up on each other’s life after the Luzon-wide lockdown went into effect.

“When I needed a friend, you’ve been there. When I needed someone to talk to, you’ve been there, too. When I look back and think about it, I don’t really know what we are, who we are [to each other]. But that’s OK, what’s important is you were there, that’s enough,” Cruz told Alonzo in Filipino in earnest, somewhere in the middle of the half-hour catch up.

The statement prompted a flurry of hearts and heart-eye emoji comments from the nearly 12,000 fans who tuned in to the live stream.

“Which movie is that from?” Alonzo asked about the somber line, then playfully grinned.

“No, I just wanted to say that,” Cruz retorted.

“Awwww. You’re really something,” Alonzo responded.

Towards the end of the live stream, Cruz also sang parts of You Are My Sunshine, which he played on his acoustic guitar. Alonzo sang along, prompting the pair to tell each other “I miss you.” (*sniff*)

Over on Twitter, fans of the on-screen couple most known for their characters Popoy and Basha in the 2007 film One More Chance, couldn’t hide their kilig (a Filipino word with no direct English translation, but can be characterized as a sort of “romantic thrill”).

Twitter users like @akibelz wrote, “My Popoy and Basha heart!!! Bea and John Lloyd singing ‘You Are My Sunshine’ is the reset we all need.”

Fans like @_fourteenzero summed it up with this GIF after they tweeted, “Me after watching John Lloyd – Bea IG Live”

And while many wished Alonzo and Cruz’s romantic relationship was a real thing, users like @dniiiiicole took the convo as is.

“I’ve come to terms with the idea that John Lloyd and Bea will always remain a loveteam and nothing more than that…I enjoy their little interactions and kilig. & if ever the tides turn, let’s cheers to that,” she wrote.

Fans of Cruz, 36, and Alonzo 32, can’t be blamed for romantically shipping the pair though. Just a few days ago, Cruz posted a video on a boat with nothing but the sea and what was supposedly his and Alonzo’s feet playfully enjoying the sail.

“Two friends, their feet one against the other,” he wrote.

The two last set social media on fire in February when they opened Art Fair Philippines with a live script reading of the rom-com That Thing Called Tadhana (“That Thing Called Destiny”), before launching into a karaoke duet of Where Do Broken Hearts Go.
