Filipinos had to hold their breath a little bit longer when the country’s bet Rachel Peters did not make it as one of the four semifinalists from Africa and Asia Pacific in this year’s Miss Universe currently being held in Las Vegas, United States.
To the relief of pageant fans, Peters advanced to the next round of the competition as one of four wildcard picks. And now she is part of the top 10.
“After they finished calling Asia I was like oh my goodness, what is happening right now? But you know, everything happens for a reason,” Peters told host Ashley Graham.
This year’s Miss Universe took on a new format. The 92 contestants were divided into regions: Africa and Asia Pacific, Europe, and Americas. The top 16 was made up of four from each category and four wildcard picks.
