Uhm, congrats to us?
According to Time.com, the Philippines is the number one country most obsessed with the film adaptation of the John Green novel. This is based on Google data, which shows that the country’s volume index for the term “The Fault in our Stars” is more than double that of the score of the US, which is 44 (second highest). Completing the top five are Singapore (38), Australia (37), and New Zealand (36).
Jack Linshi of Time.com thinks it’s because we’re heavily influenced by American works. He adds that it’s also because “since 1935, English has been an official language in the Philippines” and that “romance novels have increasingly become popular in the island country.”
Pinoys are really into TFIOS (yes, that’s the cool way to refer to the movie). For crying out loud, there’s even a shirt company that makes shirts featuring quotes from the flick.
You can also check your Instagram or Facebook stream/feed and you are sure to come across posts on how the movie has made your contacts/friends cry.
