Philippines’ ‘Horror Queen’ Lilia Cuntapay dies at 81

Philippine cinema just lost another institution.

“Queen of Philippine Horror Movies” Lilia Cuntapay passed away at 6:00 a.m. today (Aug 20) in their home in Pinili, Ilocos Norte, reported ABS-CBN News.

She was 81 years old.

The news was confirmed by her granddaughter Elma Cuntapay-Daet.

Earlier this month, the veteran actress pleaded for help from her colleagues in the showbiz industry, after she was diagnosed with a disease that affected her spinal cord, rendering her unable to stand up and walk normally.

She is suvived by her only son, Gilmor, who took her in last month when she got sick.

Cuntapay has been a regular in Philippine horror movies, but in 2011, she starred in a mockumentary entitled Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay and brought home the Best Actress award in the Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival.
