It’s not every day you witness a surprise wedding, even more uncommon is if you watched it on live television. But leave it to a Filipino noontime show to do just that.
It’s Showtime, a variety show that usually has its contestants sing and dance one-upped itself when its host Teddy Corpuz prepared a surprise renewal of vows with his wife Jasmine Corpuz.
It started with a performance from Teddy who his band’s song Magpakailanman. He then walked to where Jasmine was seated and said: “Surprise. I know you don’t like surprises but allow me to do this.”
Teddy recounted how their relationship started and said that Jasmine was actually planning to move abroad to marry someone else. “I remember what I told you then. I said ‘What you’re about to do is right if you love the guy but if you love me, then you’re mine,” he said.
“You always tell me that I never proposed to you so now, in front of you and in front of the entire world I want to ask you: babe, will you marry me again,” he said as he got down on one knee.
Jasmine nodded in approval and the stage was transformed into a wedding altar. Pastor Joseph Etienne Morales officiated the wedding and the couple’s family and friends occupied the stage.
Like many weddings today, this one also has a “same day edit” (SDE) video which you can watch here.
