We’re not saying we’re glad to hear it—but it’s comforting to know that in other parts of Southeast Asia, politics gets just as dirty as it does in Manila.
Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, a 27-year-old female political secretary in Malaysia planning to run for public office, was the victim of character assassination after pictures of her in a bikini were distributed online in the conservative country.
“The photo started being circulated in connection with Dyana soon after rumours arose that she would be fielded as a Pakatan Rakyat candidate in the upcoming Teluk Intan by-election, to be held on May 31,” reports Coconuts Kuala Lumpur.
But it wasn’t her in the picture—it was 25-year-old Filipina actress Pauleen Luna.
“LOL! I wish I have that body. Must work extra hard at the gym!” the Malaysian politician tweeted.
The politician said she received hundreds of abusive calls and text.
