It’s nice to know that they heard the concerns loud and clear.

“After members of the literary community raised their concerns and strong opinions against Rule 21 in the 65th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, the Carlos Palanca Foundation, Inc. has recently revised its rules. In place of the controversial Sponsor’s Rights that obligates participants to agree to have their ‘moral rights’ to their work waived should it win in the competition. The literary contest’s rules have reverted back to the previous set of rules it has been applying for the past years,” reports InterAksyon.com.

The report cited a statement by Palanca Foundation Director General Sylvia Palanca, which was posted on the literary contest’s website.

The statement reads: “The Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (CPMA) attaches hereto, the revised rules for the 2015 contest. The revisions address the concerns raise by members of the literary community whose opinions CPMA highly values, on the rules regarding the assignment of ‘moral rights’ and the retroactivity to past award-winning works which had been provided in the superseded rules. These two (2) matters have accordingly been deleted.”

It added, “CPMA reiterates its primary objective to promote the growth of Philippine literature, through a platform that will encourage our writers to write, and their deserving works given due recognition by their peers and made available to the public through its library of the award-winning works.”
