Open call for young film professionals: Berlinale Talents 2016 is now accepting applications!

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

Berlinale Talents is the annual summit and networking arm of the Berlin international Film Festival. For 12 years running, 300 hundred young film professionals — actors, directors, producers, sound engineers, film critics — have been given the chance to network, make connections, and most importantly, to hone their skills through several programs offered.

There’s the Summit Program, which is comprised of 35 sessions ranging from master classes to interactive panel discussions. The Project Labs, which is geared towards screenwriters. The Studio Programme, meanwhile is geared towards actors, editors, production designers and cinematographers.

And then there’s the Talent Press section, which our friends at Goethe-Institut told us about. Eight film critics from the world over are selected for this program.

Here, Roger Ebert-wanna bes are given the platform and mentorship to acquaint themselves with different trends in world cinema and film journalism. They will watch movies, review movies, and take part in different events throughout the festival. They stand a chance of getting published on different websites, too.

As long as you’ve had at least three (3) articles as a film critic published in the last two years, you’re eligible. You’ll have to submit those, indicate when they were published, where they were published, and let Berlinale know how clickbait-y you are people respond to your writing by attaching the circulation numbers. If you’re an online journo, you’ll have to include the monthly visitors of the website as well.

All this sounds like a good opportunity for young ‘uns, don’t you think?

The deadline for application to the 2016 edition of Berlinale Talents is on Sep 1. Fast approaching we know. Berlinale Talents 2016 will happen on Feb 13-18, 2016.

Check out their website to know more. Confident this is for you? Well, apply now.
