GMA Network recently released a teaser of an upcoming primetime television series called Alyas Robin Hood, which stars Dingdong Dantes as a superhero-type character who uses a bow and arrow.
Some people compared the show to the American show Arrow, which stars Stephen Amell.
In fact, Amell himself shared the Alyas Robin Hood teaser on his Facebook page.
Many of the comments on the page seem to come from Filipinos apologizing for the alleged rip-off.
There were other commenters who pointed out that Arrow itself was inspired by the tale of Robin Hood.
In a PEP report, Alyas Robin Hood concept developer and creative consultant Suzette Doctolero clarified that the show is not a rip-off of Arrow.
Doctolero stated, “The lead character ng Arrow ay isang bilyonaryong playboy na naging vigilante. Si Alyas Robin Hood ay isang mahirap na lalaki na nakaranas ng social injustice. Parehong Robin Hood ay inspiration ng Arrow at Alyas Robin Hood, so parehong may bow at arrow ‘yan at hood kasi si Robin Hood ‘yan.”
(“The lead character of Arrow is a billionaire playboy who transformed himself into a vigilante. The lead character of Alyas Robin Hood is a poor guy who has experienced social injustice. Robin Hood was the inspiration for both Arrow and Alyas Robin Hood, so they both have a bow and arrow, as well as a hood.”)
Doctolero also clarified that the so-called “rip-off poster” that has been circulating on social media is not from GMA Network. The “possibly fan-made poster” shows the Alyas Robin Hood cast in a pose akin to that of the Arrow cast.
