Many were hoping for a back-to-back pageant win for the Philippines in this year’s Miss International, but it looks like this is one improbability that’s way too tough to beat.

The Philippines’ representative to the Miss International competition Mariel De Leon failed to make it to the top 15 and bowed down early in yesterday’s show.

Kevin Lilliana from Indonesia, 21, won the crown. Yesterday’s runners-up were:

Chanelle De Lau from Curacao, 1st runner-up

Diana Croce from Venezuela, 2nd runner-up

Amber Dew from Australia, 3rd runner-up

Natsuki Tsutsui from Japan, 4th runner-up

The pageant, which was held in Tokyo, Japan was livestreamed through the pageant’s website.

The Philippines’ Kylie Verzosa, last year’s Miss International winner, was also in Tokyo to turn over the crown.

De Leon, daughter of screen veterans Christopher De Leon and Sandy Andolong, joined Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) once in 2013 before being named the country’s representative in the international competition this year.

Her loss comes after a solid start for the Philippines in this year’s pageant season. The country’s bets for Miss Earth Karen Ibasco and for Reina Hispanoamericana Winwyn Marquez were both crowned winners earlier this month.

Next up are Laura Lehmann for Miss World 2018 in Sanya, China, this coming Saturday and Rachel Peters for Miss Universe on Nov. 26, Sunday in Las Vegas.
