LGBT crisis center opens in QC

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista is the man! After signing an ordinance, QC now has “a one-stop crisis center for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBTs) who fall victim to abuse and discrimination,” according to ABS-CBN News.

Vice Mayor Josefina Belmonte pushed for this, too, because as she and other councilors noticed, women aren’t the only victims of gender-based abuse.

The center is for victims of physical, sexual and psychological violence that happen in the family or within the general community. Examples are battery, rape,, sexual harassment, harmful traditional practices, exploitation, intimidation at work, educational institutions and elsewhere, prostitution and human trafficking.

The center opened last month and it has already served three clients so far.
