Seven House Representatives filed a resolution demanding an apology from singer Justin Bieber for maligning Saranggani Representative and boxer Manny Pacquiao after the boxer’s loss during a boxing match in Las Vegas, Nevada last December 9. House Resolution 2962 cited “the distateful comments” made by the 18-year old singer. The resolution warned that without an apology, Bieber might be declared persona non grata.
In part, the resolution mentions that Justin Bieber “should have known that the Hon. Pacquiao has reached his stature as such as a result of sheer hard work, determination and firm belief in God, and despite such stature best exemplifies humility and grace even in defeat.”
According to reports, Representatives Carol Jayne Lopez (Party List PL – YACAP), Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos (1st District of Zamboanga del Norte), Amado Bagatsing (5th District of Manila), Antonio Alvarez (1st District of Palawan), Mark Aeron Sambar (Party List PL – PBA), Alfredo Garbin (Party List PL – AKO BICOL) and Isidro Lico (Party List PL – ATING KOOP) filed the resolution.
Justin Bieber posted photoshopped memes on Instagram making fun of Pacquiao’s loss. The resolution further added that the singer “should have been more circumspect and prudent in the expression of his views.”
