For those of you who just have too much time on their hands, here’s a new TV show to obsess over.

The second season of anthology series American Crime Story that premiered yesterday is about the assassination of fashion designer Gianni Versace but according to initial reviews, it looks like the story focuses more on his attacker, Filipino American serial killer Andrew Cunanan.

“Instead of calling it The Assassination Of Gianni Versace, FX probably should have named this show The Disintegration Of Andrew Cunanan,” critic Eric Deggans said on public radio station NPR’s program Morning Edition.

If you weren’t following this story in 1997 (or were too young to even know about it), Cunanan, a male prostitute, shot Versace outside his home in Miami Beach, Florida after killing at least four other people in the last three months. Cunanan eventually committed suicide eight days after killing Versace.

In the show, Cunanan is played by Filipino American actor Darren Criss — yes, that guy from Glee — who has been praised for his portrayal of the complex character. “This is going to redefine Criss’s career, and it deserves to,” Vox’s review reads.

Filipino Broadway actor Jon Jon Briones, who recently starred in Miss Saigon, also appears on the show as Cunanan’s con-man father Modesto Cunanan.

The cast also includes Édgar Ramírez as Versace, Ricky Martin as his boyfriend Antonio D’Amico, and Penelope Cruz as Versace’s sister Donatella.

American Crime Story‘s first season about the controversial O.J. Simpson murder trial was critically acclaimed and received nine Emmys and two Golden Globe awards.

The show airs on cable channel FX Asia every Thursday. Its first season was also made available on Netflix a few months after its original 10-episode run ended so here’s hoping they do the same this season.

Get ready to binge.
