If the painting is familiar, it’s because you’ve probably seen it on Lino Brocka’s 1991 film Kislap sa Dilim.
‘Pagoda,’ is an oil on canvass work by National artist H.R. Ocampo. It used to be in the collection of a filmmaker’s family, and so the movie cameo.
The 40×30-inch artwork, completed in 1967, features “clustered red and ocher biomorphs that seem to pulsate as their piled-up forms, unified visually as a tiered towering mass that appear to shift and move upward as if to capture the very essence of a place of worship.”
‘Pagoda’ along with other pieces of Philippine Art, will be at Salcedo Auction’s Important Philippine Art Auction on Saturday, Mar 7, with a price tag that starts at PHP2.8M. It is currently on preview, from 10am-6pm, until Feb 6.
Important Philippine Art, 2pm. Salcedo Auctions, 121 Tordesillas St, Salcedo Village, Makati. +63 917 5912191.
