National Artist awardees released, Nora Aunor not included

Malacañang has released its official list of National Artist awardees and as predicted by Coconuts Manila, actress Nora Aunor is not in it.

On March 31, we reported that “according to high government sources, Aunor’s name is not in the list of new National Artists submitted to the President for his signing into a proclamation order.”

We added that Malacañang has balked from elevating the actress into the honor because of “moral issues” against her, particularly her alleged drug use and her arrest in the United States several years ago over drug possession.” Read the full story.

The Order of National Artist is the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who have made contributions to the development of Philippine art, according to press secretary Sonny Coloma.

Here are the six awardees:

— Jose Maria V. Zaragoza for architecture, design and allied arts
Ramon P. Santos for Music
Francisco F. Feliciano for Music
