Sorry guys, but another Eraserheads reunion is just not going to happen anytime soon.
Hopes were dashed when the band’s former vocalist Ely Buendia yesterday denied that he was in the viral video showing his former bandmates Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala, and Raymund Marasigan playing one of their group’s biggest hits Minsan.
Buendia was referring to a video which Marasigan posted on Monday on the latter’s account which has the caption “Practice before game 2.” The “game” Marasigan is referring to is the second basketball match between Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines (UP) at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) season 81. All of Eraserheads’ members met and studied in UP.
Included in the video is a blond man whom newspaper the Philippine Star incorrectly assumed was Buendia — maybe because the vocalist now sports platinum blond locks. This led Buendia to post this tweet yesterday: “Whoever that blond guy in the video is, it’s not me. Sorry, Philstar. I wish both UAAP teams the best of luck, though.”
Buendia appeared sarcastic in his subsequent tweet where he poked fun at the unidentified blonde man. He joked that one could mistake him for transgender comedian Vice Ganda.
Buendia’s next few tweets then got a little salty. He added: “It’s such a laugh trip the way the guy taking the video takes shots of the blond guy — bringing false hope to the [Eraserheads’] fans.”
He also likened “these guys” to a university’s semestral break — “no class at all.” It’s unclear whether Buendia was referring to his ex-bandmates or to the Philstar.
He then encouraged people to cheer for those who spread “fake news.”

While Buendia will always be known for his time in the Eraserheads, he’s still creating new music. One critic even wrote that his new album for his current band Apartel was “amazing.” He also launched an indie label in October called Offshore Music.
But it’s understandable why Filipinos can’t seem to forget The Eraserheads, which came into prominence in the early 1990s when OPM pop rock became the rage. They’re so iconic that some critics have even likened them to The Beatles, calling them the “Filipino Fab Four.”
The band broke-up in 2002 due to internal conflict then reunited for a 2008 concert due to a clamor from fans. The performance was cut short when Buendia had a heart attack. The band staged another concert in 2009 and embarked on a world in 2012.
