Moving on: Sunshine Dizon shares learnings from split with husband

Actress Sunshine Dizon went through a very public break up about two months ago.

Given the nature of her job, it’s inevitable for the world — or the Philippines, at least — to feast on the details of how her marriage ended.

Still fresh from the heartbreak, Sunshine shared her learnings from the experience in Ricky Lo’s column published in the Philippine Star yesterday.

“I think the greatest lesson that I learned was to be independent,” Sunshine said.

“All my life I was dependent on my mom and when I got married, my world revolved around my husband to a point that when this thing happened there were a couple of months when I really did not know what to do. That’s when I realized that wala na, ako na lang talaga ito (I was left on my own). So I started to pick up the pieces and decided I will not rely on anybody but myself,” she added.

Overall, the experience helped her become stronger physically, mentally and emotionally. She said she needed to be strong for the sake of her kids.

“I have no regrets; I got married at 27. All the pain and sacrifices are worth it, especially having my two beautiful babies,” she said.

She has a son and daughter with her ex-husband. On her Instagram posts, she affectionately calls them #chinadollandtonyboy.

So how did Sunshine explain what happened to her kids? “I told them that daddy made a mistake and that he has to face the consequences of his actions.”

Sunshine has been very vocal about how focusing on herself helped her deal with the bitter end of her marriage.

With the magic of dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon Vicky Belo, Sunshine lost 30 lbs. She now boasts a 27-inch waistline on her 130-pound body.

“Looking good, looking your best leads to self-esteem, self worth and self love. When you are beautiful and start loving yourself, you see beautiful things around you, the abundant blessings. Imagine if you have problem then you don’t look good pa, that is too much to handle,” she said.

Sunshine is not closing her doors to the thought of getting in a relationship in the future. After all, the actress is only in her early 30s, but she said she wants to focus on herself and her kids, at least for now.

A case is now pending in court against her ex-husband and his alleged girlfriend. Sunshine was married in 2010.
