Not all angels have wings, sometimes they’re just sitting right behind the wheel.
Filipina mom Anica Espinosa shared a heartbreaking experience of how a Grab car driver helped her witness the final moments of her 11-year-old son Sean, before he died in the hospital due to leukemia.
Espinosa just got home from the hospital when she received a call saying that she should rush back because Sean’s respiratory rate dropped alarmingly. She immediately booked a trip on the ride-sharing app Grab Car.
According to Espinosa’s Facebook post, the kind Grab Car driver Grape Rufon Fernandez leveled up his driving as soon as he found out that her son was fighting for his life. He also turned on his hazard to indicate that there was an emergency.
The trip from Banawe to Cainta, which was supposed to take 45 minutes only lasted for 32 minutes. During the ride, Espinosa was talking to the people who were with Sean. She asked them to take a video of his final moments if she doesn’t arrive on time.
But she did — thanks to the concern and effort of her kind Grab driver.
Espinosa paid her PHP432 fare with PHP1000 but Fernandez refused to accept.
“Ma’m, be strong. I am okay,” he said.
Espinosa gave him a quick hug before rushing to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. She was able to say goodbye to Sean.
On her review, Espinosa commended Fernandez for going above and beyond the call of duty.
“Thank you… I was able to witness my son’s last breath because of you,” she said.
What’s more? On her latest Facebook post, Espinosa posted an update saying that she found Fernandez. The Grab driver visited the wake of Espinosa’s son. She called him her “Grab Angel. Faith in humanity restored indeed!
