Filipino singer Moira Dela Torre is on the up and up.
Spotify revealed today that as of now, she is the most-streamed Filipina artist in the Philippines.
The 25-year-old was also Spotify Philippines’ most-streamed Filipino artist last year, Spotify Philippines said in a statement sent to media today. She was also last year’s most-streamed female artist overall.
Ariana Grande topped the list of most-streamed female artists in the Philippines with Dela Torre taking the second spot. This is based on streams from Jan. 1 to March 1, 2019. The list was compiled by the music streaming platform in time for International Women’s Day today.
Dela Torre is the only Filipino in the top 10 list of most-streamed female artists in the country. The “Malaya” singer was followed by Taylor Swift, BLACKPINK, Dua Lipa, Anne-Marie, Halsey, Camila Cabello, Selena Gomez, and TWICE.
Dela Torre was first discovered when she joined the reality television singing competition The Voice of the Philippines in 2013, however, she was eliminated early on.
Her big break was the song “Malaya,” which was part of the soundtrack for the 2016 film Camp Sawi. In 2017, she won Himig Handog, a songwriting competition hosted by ABS-CBN Music, with her interpretation of Libertine Amistoso’s song “Titibo-tibo.”
The music video for her song “Tagpuan” also became viral in April 2018 because it shows her now-hubby Jason Marvin proposing to her. The video had over 15million views. Check it out below:
She is also known for her mellifluous renditions of Johnny Cash’s “You Are My Sunshine,” Moonstar88’s “Torete,” and Ed Sheeran’s “Happier.”
Dela Torre will be a judge for Idol Philippines, an upcoming Philippine reality singing television competition.
