We were all expecting her to win the 63rd Annual Miss Universe crown.
A lot of people believed that she’s our strongest delegate as opposed to our four previous ones.
We heard a lot of praises and good things about MJ from people from all over the world, even from other nationalities.
She was always a part of the Top 5 winners predictions lists everywhere.
She had the right amount of class and mainstream and gay appeal.
So what went wrong? Why didn’t she make it to the Top 5 and win the crown? What happened?
Here are our unsolicited theories.
Her evening gown is to blame.

Not everyone liked the Alfredo Barrazza gown because it made MJ look short. Sure, Veejay Floresca fixed her gown by giving it a sweetheart neckline, making it more bottle-shaped to emphasize her curves, and adding more details to cover the see-through part to address the it-makes-her-look-short effect. But we guess it was too late. Despite the improvements, the gown still lacked oomph.
Her performance was weak.

Her performances during the prelims seemed to be more inspired and energetic as opposed to the actual competition. Just take, for example, the introduction. It wasn’t as kaboom and goosebumps-inducing as the one from the prelims – the one with the kembot and the chin up, remember?
Her height.

MJ seemed to be one of the shortest among the Top 15. Miss India sure was short, too, but she was so thin that she looked long, too.
There were better delegates

We’re not saying MJ did bad. She did pretty well, in fact. It’s just that it was a pretty tight competition this year. We mean, almost all of the Top 15 contestants deserved to be in the Top 5; the quality was that good. It could be “bad luck” or “bad timing” or a “bad batch of judges,” but the thing is that someone else was preferred.
