Manila would probably be the last place you’d think of coming for a stroll, but the city is clearly breathing new life back into its parks and open spaces.
Case in point: the Arroceros Forest Park, which was recently reopened to the public after undergoing months of renovation, and on the heels of the opening of another Manila landmark, the Manila Zoo.

The riverside park, enclosed in a 2.2-hectare property, has been called “Manila’s last lung” as the only nature park within the city.
The improved park now includes elevated walkways, a coffee shop, as well as a play area for children.
The park has over 3,000 trees of 61 varieties and 8,000 ornamental plants. Arroceros is also a habitat for 10 various bird species.
The facelift is reported to be part of Manila mayor Isko Moreno’s long-term vision to build a so-called Green City in the area of Lawton, Manila.
Moreno is currently one of the candidates seeking the presidency in the May elections.
