What to do in Manila this weekend (Sept. 1 – 3): Staycation in QC, International Silent Film Festival, G-Dragon Concert

Whether you’re a true blue Manileño, someone who just moved here, or are just visiting, you’ve probably already noticed that there is never a lack of things to do in Manila. This is Coconuts Manila’s guide to everything you need to check out over the weekend. Peruse it, take note of everything that interests you, and don’t forget to let us know all about it.

It was just confirmed yesterday that we are on a 3-day work week. If the surprise long weekend caught you off guard, here are some things you can do to fill your calendar — and they’re all in the city.

Stay in the city, check into a hotel, chill, and make the most out of the long weekend

Date: Promo ends on Aug. 31, Thursday (But you can stay any day during the weekend)
Venue: Astra Corner Lux Drives, Vertis North, Diliman, Quezon City

While others might take this long weekend as a chance to go out of town, make the most of the city’s clear roads and have a staycation instead. Seda Vertis North, which opened in July, is a boutique hotel that is small enough to be intimate but still has all the top amenities you look for.

Since Friday was declared a holiday, you can enjoy their Great Deal promo tomorrow which slashes 20% off the regular price of hotel rooms. The promo ends tomorrow but the experience of chilling by the pool and a enjoying a buffet breakfast would still be a nice way to spend the rest of the long weekend.

Have a different kind of cinema experience and watch a silent film

Date: Aug. 31 – Sep. 3 (Thursday – Sunday)
Venue: Shangri-La Plaza

Going to the International Silent Film Festival won’t be like your ordinary movie night; it is an experience in itself. Films from 11 different countries will be shown throughout the weekend, each scored by a live band. Just to give you a better idea: On Sunday, you can watch the Austrian film Café Elektric as Rivermaya performs live in the background. The best part? Tickets are free.

Get together with other K-pop fans and watch Big Bang’s G-Dragon

Date: Sept. 1, Friday
Venue: Smart Araneta Coliseum

G-Dragon is back in Manila and now it’s for a solo concert. Anyone who loves Big Bang (or K-pop) probably already has tickets to the show but casual fans looking for something to do during this Friday holiday will be glad to know that tickets are still available. You can get yours at TicketNet.
