What to do in Manila this weekend (Dec. 22 – 24): Pasko Noon at Ngayon art exhibition, Manila Sundance Bazaar, Metro Manila Film Festival 2017

Whether you’re a true blue Manileño, someone who just moved here, or are just visiting, you’ve probably already noticed that there is never a lack of things to do in Manila. This is Coconuts Manila’s guide to everything you need to check out over the weekend. Peruse it, take note of everything that interests you, and don’t forget to let us know all about it.

Another way to get into the holiday spirit: visit an art exhibition

Date: Dec. 14 – Jan. 7
Venue: Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea, Greenbelt 5

We all do it, listen to Christmas songs and watch Christmas movies on the days leading up to the holiday, but here’s a suggestion: get into the holiday spirit with art.

Visit Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea in Greenbelt 5  until Jan. 5 and see their Pasko Noon at Ngayon (Christmas in the Past and Present) exhibition showcasing the work of painter Jun Impas. It’s a look into Philippine culture and how we’ve celebrated Christmas through the years.

Go last-minute bargain hunting for gifts and holiday outfits

Date: Dec. 19 – 24 (Tuesday – Sunday)
Venue: Megatrade Hall 2 and 3, SM Megamall

Suddenly have yet another Christmas party to attend? Buy your outfit and some gifts at the Manila Sundance Christmas Flair. The bazaar will occupy two Megatrade halls so you’ll be sure to find something you like.

Like most bazaars, it can be overwhelming, so make sure to bring a list of things you need to buy. Go there for cheap but on-trend holiday party outfits and random knick-knacks you can gift to almost anyone.

Metro Manila Film Festival 2017

Date: Starts Dec. 25, Monday
Venue: All cinemas in Metro Manila

In Manila, the Metro Manila Film Festival is as much part of the Christmas season as noche buena (Christmas dinner). On Christmas Day, families flock to cinemas that have been required to only show films in the festival.

While this year’s selection process has been controversial, we still think you should give it a go. Our top picks are the movie musical Ang Larawan (The Portrait), based on a play by national artist Nick Joaquin, and Siargao, a romance set in the popular surfing town the film is named after.
