So many boops to give, so little time.
Dog lovers can rejoice because now they can bring their furry critters to BarkYard, the newly opened off-leash area in U.P. Town Center (UPTC) in Quezon City.
On its official Facebook page, UPTC shared photos on Tuesday of dogs of all breeds to announce the area’s official launch: “The BarkYard is now open! Let your pets enjoy the outdoors in our off-leash pet park.”
Most mall goers know that the UPTC is a pet-friendly establishment, which is why the mall decided to let customers have a special area where pets and their owners can mingle in.
Maxin Arcebal, the marketing associate manager of AyalaLand Metro North, Inc., told Coconuts Manila through an email: “Our open spaces and garden areas make it conducive for customers to dine and shop with their pets. We wanted to add to this experience by giving customers a specific area where they can play, train, and exercise with their pets.”
Arcebal, who doubles as the CEO of HoundHaven, an organization that helps provide retirement homes for retired K-9 dogs, said she mostly handles the pet-related initiatives in the mall.
She added that the BarkYard is going to be a permanent area that is strictly for dogs only. Sorry, feline friends.
There’s a separate enclosure for small dogs and medium to large breed dogs. Each enclosure has its own agility course that customers and pets can enjoy, Arcebal shared.
She added that there were around 100 guests and 50 dogs during their launch on Sunday: “Everyone had fun meeting fellow pet parents, taking pictures of their dogs on the agility course, and just watching their dogs play.”
She also stated how it’ll be convenient for nearby residents with pets: “Dog parks are a relatively new concept in the Philippines, so the fact that there’s one close to home (UPTC’s neighbors are condos and gated villages) makes it all the more convenient for our customers.”
It will be open every day, 11am – 9pm from Mondays to Thursdays and 10am – 10pm from Fridays to Sundays.
She added that this might change in the next few months as they plan to open it a bit earlier. “Maybe at 7am, for customers who go jogging/exercise with their dogs in the morning. We are also planning to close it one day every week for maintenance and cleaning.”
In the future, pups could also celebrate birthdays there. “We plan to open BarkYard to private events and dog birthday parties,” Arcebal added.
