Top male models and very active athletes Daniel Matsunaga, Abs Abdelkader, Victor Silayan, Gerard Garcia Sison and former Azkals captain Aly Borromeo know their bodies well and they know what it needs.
That’s why when this group of friends and training buddies were looking for a diet program, they were disappointed to find out that the metro does not have one that addresses exactly what they want.
“The concept was born of our own demand,” says Sison. “We were all looking for a service like what we’re offering now, but none of the services available at the time met our standards. The diet delivery companies we tried before had food and nutritional quality that weren’t up to par. None could customize to our needs. We all felt that we would eat healthier if we prepared our own food.”
Their busy lives didn’t permit them to do so though that’s why they decided to put up The Healthy House, not only to help themselves but also others who might be stuck in the same dilemma as they were.
A long time friend of both Daniel and Gerard, Abs is recognized in the international modeling circuit for his physique, which has graced the covers of Men’s Health magazine multiple times. “He was the guy we would go to for nutrition advice,” says CEO Sison.
“You would think that he is a genetic freak, but if you look at all of his brothers and parents none are built like him. His physique is purely a result of his discipline and knowledge, which he later taught us.”
Along with his principles and the help of nutritionist-dieticians Julianne Lintag and Mia David, The Healthy House ensures that there’s reason and basis for the diet their customers’ are submitting themselves to.
At the first consultation, they assess the client based on his height, current weight, goal, age, exercise habits, food allergies, and other lifestyle factors. The nutritionist then decides what type of diet and calorie range would best suit his needs.
The team then tracks his progress regularly, usually twice per week, to see if any adjustments need to be made based on the results.
Manning the kitchen is head chef Jose Gaerlan, who acquired experience in local and foreign institutions. Through The Healthy House, he promises meals with the highest nutritional quality and balance delivered to your doorstep. They have a menu for you to choose from, varying from Mexican, Italian, and Thai to Mediterranean, Korean, and Chinese.
You receive a note enumerating the dishes in detail, in what order you should eat them, and how to reheat them. They also tailor fit the calorie range according to the nutritionists recommendation, anywhere from 1200 Cal to 2100 Cal depending on the client’s needs.
For a company as young as two months, The Healthy House has been quite in demand, thanks to favorable word of mouth among its loyal customers. A 64-year-old client who is pre-diabetic and has had high blood sugar problems, reported a weight loss of 8 lbs just after four weeks of subscription to the program.
“What’s more, her endocrinologist reported that her blood sugar has leveled out, and which we were very happy to hear,” adds Sison. “To be honest, over 90% of our clients report weekly weight loss and our most successful clients are those who make the time to exercise and change their overall lifestyle.”
“In football, I always look for ways to stay ahead of the competition in whatever way possible,” claims Borromeo. “With this diet, I have been feeling lighter on my feet, more agile, and my recovery has been so much easier than in past seasons. I’ve never looked better,” he says tongue in cheek.
“I gained a little weight when I was going through my knee rehabilitation process and recovering from surgery. I was concerned that getting back into match fitness would be a challenge but it turned out a lot easier than expected.”
