Congrats to Lyca Gairanod, the nine-year-old who beat the three other grand finalists of The Voice Kids Philippines held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World manila yesterday, July 27. Sarah Geronimo’s protégé, who used to help her parents scavenge junk back in Cavite is the first-ever winner of the talent search.
Her fellow Team Sarah contestant, Darren Espanto, ended up in second place. Juan Karlos Labajo under Bamboo finished third, while Darlene Vibares under Lea Salonga finished last.
Lyca won’t be picking up trash now. Her prizes? Apart from a recording contract with MCA Universal, she is also bringing home PHP1 million, a house and lot from Camella Homes, a musical instrument package, a home appliance package, and other prizes.
For the final performance night last Saturday, Lyca sang Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and the Regine Velasquez original “Narito Ako,” which she sang again right after being announced the winner on Sunday night.
Lyca, the show, and the other finalists became tending topics online. Apart from tweets of congratulations, hashtags like “TheVoiceKidsChampions, #TVKDarrenForTheChampion, and #WowAngGwapoNiLuis (pertaining to host Luis Manzano) trended.
However, there was also one issue: a lot of people believe that Darren is the rightful and deserving winner of the title, but these same people also expressed how Lyca deserve the prizes more.
