Geeky story of star-crossed lovers in ‘Constellations’ starring JC Santos and Cris Villonco

Forget for a moment William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Probably nobody deserves the title of “star-crossed lovers” better than Roland and Marianne in Constellations.

In Nick Payne’s critically-acclaimed play, he is the ardent beekeper to her nerdy scientist. But their boy-meets-girl story gets an interesting twist as they keep meeting and falling in love all over again in parallel universes.

And each love story in each universe plays out differently.

As Marianne explains in one pivotal line which turns Roland on, “In the quantum multiverse, every choice, every decision you’ve ever made and never made exists in an unimaginably vast ensemble of parallel universes.”

It’s the ultimate geekgasm for those of us who have always wondered how our love stories could have played out had we made that decision, instead of this one.

The play has received rave reviews in its short stints in West End and Broadway.

Now the Manila audience can see what the shouting is all about. Red Turnip Theater starts performing the 70-minute play on Feb 12 with Cris Villonco as Marianne and JC Santos as Roland.

Constellations runs from Feb 12 to Mar 6 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Theater in Circuit Makati, AP Reyes Ave, Makati City. Tickets, go to www.ticketworld.com.ph.
