Look Who’s Back: Iconic ’90s group SexBomb Girls reunite virtually for COVID-19 relief

Look what quarantine life decided to dish up this week: members of the SexBomb Girls, arguably the Philippines’ most iconic girl group (think Pussycat Dolls), has reunited to raise funds for COVID-19 relief.

Part 1 of the six-way video convo was uploaded on founding member Rochelle Pangilinan’s YouTube account on Monday, which included Weng Ibarra, Izzy Trazona, Yvette Pabalan, Monic Icban, and Jopay Paguia.

The members sang Daisy Siyete (a play on the words “Daisy” and “Seven,” and together a portmanteau of “Seventeen”) and Tahanan (“Home”). The girls also caught up with each other’s lives while on quarantine.

Towards the end of the half-hour video, Pangilinan said that the virtual catch-up was done so that she could ask members of the group to raise funds to supply COVID-19 frontliners with medical supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPE).

“One other reason I asked for us to do this [reunion], is so I can ask each of you [girls] for help to supply our medical frontliners with PPEs, masks, etc.” Pangilinan said in English and Filipino.

It seems the good times won’t end with this one, however, because the video teased, “To be continued” towards the end of the virtual reunion.

Formerly called the SexBomb Dancers, then SB NewGen, and now SexBomb Girls, the country’s most beloved girl group were first formed in 1999. The group, which was initially comprised of four members, were mainstays of the country’s longest-running noontime show, Eat Bulaga.
Their viral earworm Spaghetti Song, which was accompanied by gyrating dance movements, was a hit with the masses in the early 2000s. Refresh your memory by playing the video below.
