Maybe they didn’t get the memo?
For President Rodrigo Duterte’s first State of the National Address, attendees were asked to “tone down” their fashion choices. Ladies, in particular, were asked to stick to either business attire or cocktail-length Filipinianas.

But despite the memo, some guests who attended the SONA at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on Mon, Jul 25, still showed up as glamazons.
Inquirer‘s fashion page Preen listed a number of SONA ladies who broke “by a few inches” the “downplayed” dress code for this year’s SONA.
There’s Heart Evangelista, wife of Sen. Francis Escudero, who looked gorgeous in her white Massimo Dutti pants and blazer emsemble.
Jinkee Pacquiao, wife of Sen. Manny Pacquiao, wore a Gucci dress. At the Senate earlier that day, she wore a more elaborate Inno Sotto gown.
Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman broke the dress code in her Paul Cabral gown (though she didn’t walk the red carpet), but netizens agreed that she looked stunning.

Gretchen Barretto’s Inno Sotto skirt is past cocktail-length, but she’s definitely rocking that Filipiniana.
Lastly, there’s Sen. Nancy Binay, whose outfit yet again became a trending topic online.

We have to admit it’s refreshing to have a SONA that didn’t become a red carpet event. It gives us more time to focus on Duterte’s statements and promises.
