Finally, the search for Darna has come to a sweet end.
Liza Soberano is slated to star in the remake of the movie starring the flying Filipino heroine in an iconic red costume.
“Yes, it is confirmed. I accepted the role of Darna,” Soberano said in an interview with ABS-CBN’s MJ Felipe.
The role seems like a completely new adventure for the 19-year-old actress. She is best known for her leading lady roles in the ABS-CBN projects “Dolce Amore” and “Forevermore,” and recent movie “My Ex and Whys.”
Darna is a comic book heroine created by writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo. When she wants to fight evil forces, she swallows a tiny rock from outer space and shouts, “Darna!”
Soberano said she wants to do her own stunts in the movie if they’re “not too life-threatening.”
The Kapamilya star will undergo intensive physical training and attend acting workshops for her role.
The Star Cinema project was first announced in 2015, and will be directed by Erik Matti.
Angel Locsin, who also played Darna in 2005 was first tapped to reprise her role in the film, but she had to back out in October 2015 due to a disc bulge in her spine.
